Centre for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation Learning
Overview
The Centre for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation Learning (CICSL) is an innovative education centre that opened in September 2015. CICSL is designed to provide advanced clinical simulation learning opportunities for healthcare students and professionals on Vancouver Island.
This project is a component of the Island Simulation Initiative, which aims to increase healthcare simulation opportunities and collaboration on Vancouver Island and integrate with other simulation centres across British Columbia. Interprofessional collaboration is at the heart of this Centre.
Our Facility
Located on the second floor of the Coronation Annex at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, CICSL contains four simulation laboratories, a debrief room and two observation rooms. Adjoining this space are offices for the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Island Medical Program. There is a satellite simulation space at Victoria General Hospital that is used primarily for neonatal and pediatric simulation.
Our Partners
CICSL was founded as a joint collaboration between Island Health, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine’s Island Medical Program and the University of Victoria Faculty of Human and Social Development’s School of Nursing in 2015. As of 2024, CICSL as a two-way partnership between Island Health and the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program.
We also work with other members of our community including the Canadian Armed Forces, Camosun Collage and the British Columbia Institute of Technology. With its unique design, CICSL not only hosts multiple professions, it also encourages frequent team participation, and communication between our partners to provide opportunities to learn with, from and about each other.
