Centre for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation Learning
Workshops
CICSL is continually hosting workshops to aid in the professional development of anyone looking to improve or begin their journey with hosting, facilitating and debriefing simulation. If you have any questions about our workshops or have ideas on something not offered, please contact us at cicsl@viha.ca.
Facilitating Simulation Workshop
The Facilitating Simulation Workshop uses a combination of pre-readings, conversations, didactic presentations, exercises and debriefings to provide participants with an overview of the many ways that simulation can be used in interprofessional healthcare experiential learning.
Occurance: Monthly
Format: In person or Virtual
Timing: 0800- 1300
Objectives:
- Review the knowledge skills and attitudes associated with the before simulation, pre-brief, peri-simulation, debrief and after simulation segments of facilitation.
- Explore using validated tools/checklists, examine team performance, improve communication and enhance the role of the observer.
- Apply the facilitation and debriefing practices through participating in a series of exercises.
Simulation Skills Orientation and Training Workshop

Overview:
The Simulator Orientation Workshop has been developed to teach participants the skills and knowledge they require to run their planned events successfully. In order to simplify the learning and mastery of the skills required to run simulations we break down and teach only what’s required for any particular participant. Follow up workshops can be arranged to review or learn about new skills or equipment.
Successfully completing this workshop will allow participants to book and utilize the simulation
equipment and spaces managed by the Centre for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation Learning (CICSL).
Occurrance: On demand
Format: In person
Timing: 1-2 hours, offered on an ad hoc basis for individuals or groups.
Objectives:
- What various simulators, equipment and spaces are available to teach simulation based
education at CICSL. - How to effectively and safely operate the simulators and equipment.
- Practice running through your own scenarios with elbow-to-elbow support. (If it has been previously arranged)
Interprofessional Simulation: Mission Possible
Overview:
Interprofessional Simulation, or Sim-IPE, is designed for individuals to learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. In this workshop, facets of Sim-IPE will be discussed, with a focus on the INACSL Sim-IPE Standards and the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) Framework for interprofessional learning.
Occurrance: On demand
Format: In person or Virtual
Timing: 2 hours
Objectives:
At the end of the session, we hope that you:
- Can define Sim IPE
- Are aware of INACSL Standards, and the CIHC Framework and Competencies used to develop, implement and debrief Sim IPE
- Have practiced crafting a IPE competency informed question
- Have been introduced to tools that evaluate Sim IPE

Optimizing In Situ Simulation
Overview:
This workshop gives participants the opportunity to explore strategies to use before, during and after in situ simulation to increase engagement, address safety and accountability and improve knowledge translation.
Occurrance: On demand
Format: In person or Virtual
Timing: 2 hours
Objectives:
- At the end of this workshop participants will have had an opportunity to explore strategies that can be used before, during, and after in situ simulation which:
- Increase engagement and effectiveness
- Increase safety and accountability
- Increase knowledge translation
