The C&W Simulation Program supports learning and systems improvement in collaboration with healthcare teams across BC Children’s and Women’s Hospitals. The Simulation Centre opened in 2012 and aims to foster excellence and innovation in simulation practice by building networks and strategic partnerships.
We acknowledge with gratitude that our program exists on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. This acknowledgement, gratitude, and respect extends to all the First Nations communities on whose traditional territories the Sim Program builds relationships and provides services.
Our programs/services
C&W Simulation events include a wide range of simulation activities including simulations within staff orientation and education workshops, mock codes, mock traumas, mock obstetric and pediatric/neonatal emergencies, skills practice, and process/systems evaluations.
Our user groups include physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, dentists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other members of the allied healthcare team.
We offer a range of faculty learning and development including: a 2-day foundational Simulation Learning Strategies course co-facilitated by Dr. Chris Chin and Simulation Educators.
Our facility
The Simulation Centre is located on the Oak Street site of BC Children’s and Women’s on the 6th floor of the SHY building. The Sim Centre is home to over 20 rooms, including simulation rooms that closely resemble a typical emergency or acute care environment, clinical skills rooms, and education/meeting rooms. The Sim Centre has 10 different high- fidelity child and adult human-patient simulators, as well as other low and medium-fidelity simulators and task trainers.
The Simulation Program staff support simulation events in both the Centre as well as on the clinical patient care units (in situ).
Our staff
Our team includes one administrator, one simulation technology and operations coordinator, 3 simulation educators and 2 simulation technology specialists.
